City League boys basketball wins leader Carl Taylor has resigned as West’s coach, citing his health.

“Personal reasons,” Taylor said when contacted Thursday. “My health comes first.” He would not elaborate.

Taylor, 66, was 3-18 in one season after coming out of a one-year retirement. He coached at Southeast from 1992 to 2012, compiling a 315-146 record and three Class 6A championships.

But during his one season at West, he was often limited to sitting on the bench because he couldn’t stand for long stretches. He also had pneumonia and an appendectomy.

West athletic director Phil Daignault said no replacement has been named.

Heights coach Joe Auer is third on the City League wins list at 288-142 and could pass Ron Allen (301-146) this season.
