Bishop Carroll captured its second consecutive City League baseball title with an 11-1 and 11-0 sweep over North on Tuesday at West Urban.

Carroll (17-1, 15-1 City League), No. 1 in the Class 5A state coaches rankings, edged Heights (18-2, 14-2) by one game for its fourth league title in five seasons. The Eagles split a doubleheader with the Falcons to open the season, and have won 16 consecutive games, including their final 14 in league play.

“We had the wind in our sails today,” Carroll coach Charlie Ebright said. “We talked to the boys about having four games this week and trying to put us in a good position for regionals. They came to work today.”

Senior right-hander Jordan Miller improved to 7-0 with a victory in Tuesday’s five-inning, run-rule opener. Senior catcher Taylor Sanagorski went 3 for 4 with five RBIs. Sanagorski doubled and homered twice – one from each side of the plate.

In the nightcap, backup catcher Tony Trujillo hit a pinch-hit grand slam in the fifth for another run-rule victory. Senior Malik Bieberle scattered three hits to earn the victory and Miller provided a boost with a two-run homer.

“We’re pitching well, and five of the last six games we’ve been clean defensively,” Ebright said. “We’re making the strides we need to make.”

Carroll wraps up its regular season Thursday with a triangular against Newton and Eisenhower. Heights, which completed the league portion of its schedule last week, finished the regular season Tuesday with a 5-0 and 6-1 sweep at Dodge City.
