Class 1A-Division II girls tournament preview

3 p.m.: Beloit St. John’s-Tipton vs. Bucklin
No. 7 Beloit St. John's-Tipton (17-7) — St. John’s started 1-3, before winning 15 of 19 to close. Of its seven losses, six came by five points or less. Freshman Brenna Eilert leads St. John’s in scoring, averaging 13 points. Kellan Niewald averages 11 points.
No. 2 Bucklin (20-3) — Two of Bucklin’s three losses came to Ingalls, but Bucklin got revenge in the sub-state finals, defeating Ingalls by five points. Nearly three-quarters of Bucklin’s scoring average comes from Morgan Hood (18 points) and Janae Price (14 points). The two combined to make 39 of the teams’ 58 three-pointers.
4:45: Wilson vs. Golden Plains
No. 6 Wilson (17-6) — Wilson has qualified for the state tournament in three of the past four seasons. Wilson lost two games in its midseason tournament and then the final two games of the season. Center Adrianna Florke averages 15 points and eight rebounds, while guard Shania Steinke averages 11 points.
No. 3 Golden Plains (20-3) — Heading into the tournament, Golden Plains is on a 13-game winning streak. This is Golden Plains’ fifth trip to the tournament and last season it took third. Jordan Christensen and Hailee Spresser are Golden Plains’ leading scorers at 12 and 11 points.
6:30: Attica vs. Baileyville
No. 8 Attica (15-8) — Attica upset South Barber in the sub-state semifinals, after South Barber won the earlier meeting by 26 points. Three of Attica’s last four wins came by four points or less. On Jan. 7, Attica was 4-4, but won 11 of its final 15 games.This is Attica's first trip to the tournament. It is led by double-figure scorers Sedan Casper (12 points), Valentina Ramirez (11) and Brooke Ricky (10).
No. 1 Baileyville (21-3) — Baileyville has won two state championships, its most recent coming in 1999. The Falcons lost in the first round to Wilson last season. Baileyville has had two eight-game winning streaks. Three players average in double figures: Katie Huerter (12), Laura Sudbeck (11) and Ashley Kramer (10).
8:15: Dighton vs. Argonia
No. 5 Dighton (17-5) — Of the seven players in Dighton’s rotation, only one player — Leslie Speer, 11 points — averages more than 10 points. Dighton made it to the state tournament a year ago; falling to Norwich in the first round. At one point this season, Dighton had an eight-game winning streak.
No. 4 Argonia (19-4) — This is Argonia’s first trip to the state tournament since it won the 2011 championship. Since Christmas, Argonia is 17-1, including a 13-game winning streak. Haylea Hessman averages 17 points and eight rebounds, while Faith Gaddie adds 10 points and four rebounds.
