Roundup: Kapaun girls to meet Andover in 5A sub-state final

City League scoring leader Sam Bachrodt scored 15 points and was one of three Kapaun Mount Carmel players in double figures as the Crusaders sailed into the Class 5A sub-state finals, beating visiting Salina South 53-22 on Thursday night.

Grace Hagan had 12 points and Sydney Kuhn 10 for Kapaun (19-2), which will play host to Andover on Saturday night with a state tournament berth on the line.

Emilee Holloway had 14 points for Salina South.

Girls

Carroll 75, West 15 — Shelby Lopez had 13 points and Rachel Doerneman had 11 for Carroll, which advanced to a 5A sub-state final at home Saturday against Eisenhower.

Andover Central 75, El Dorado 14 — The Jaguars built a 37-point halftime lead in a 4A-Division I sub-state semifinal win. Becca Schulte and Katie Kretchmar had 17 points each for Central.

Parsons 52, Clearwater 44 — Bryna Vogel had 13 points in her return from an ankle injury, but the Indians fell short in their 4A-Division II sub-state opener.

Circle 54, Augusta 50 — Kate Wilson had 15 points and Leah Metzger had 14 for the victorious Thunderbirds. Casady Marlnee led Augusta with 24 points.

Mulvane 52, Rose Hill 29 — KaSandra Melick had 25 points to lead Mulvane, which held Rose Hill to 18 points through three periods in a 4A-I sub-state semifinal.

Newton 46, Valley Center 41 — Newton’s first-half lead held up behind 18 points from Hannah Carlgren and 10 from Taylor Stahly. Megan Barnes and Shelby Bosken each had 12 for Valley Center.

Boys

Southeast 69, Junction City 48 — Jerrick Harding had 21 points and Jordan Murdock scored 18 in the Buffaloes’ home 6A semifinal victory. Southeast led throughout the game but pulled away in the fourth quarter.

East 75, Washburn Rural 37 — East built a 47-16 halftime lead and cruised to Saturday’s sub-state final against Topeka, which will play at East. Samajae Jones had 25 points and Zach Jackson had 10 for the Blue Aces, who had 11 players score.

Collegiate 59, Eureka 58 — Jack Larsen hit a three-pointer in overtime to help visiting Collegiate. Larsen finished with 20 points. Eureka had a chance at the end of regulation but their shot missed and then got the rebound. Collegiate stripped the ball to preserve the tie with less than one second to play. It was the first loss of the season for Eureka, which had won 21 straight.

Maize 57, Campus 43 — A 15-1 second quarter helped Maize cruise past Campus in a 6A sub-state semifinal. Connor Lungwitz had 15 points and Ky-Sean Johnson had 14 for the Eagles.

Free State 74, Derby 60 — Host Derby fell behind by as many as 21 points in the second half and was upset in a 6A sub-state semifinal. Jeremy Dunham had 17 points and James Conley 14 for the Panthers.
