Boys roundup: Late basket lifts South by Northwest
Jordan Moore took an inbounds pass underneath his basket and scored the winning points with two seconds remaining to lift South to a 49-47 City League victory over Northwest on Tuesday night at South.
After South tied it at 47, Northwest’s inbounds pass hit the scoreboard. South’s Zach Brown inbounded to Moore for the game-winner.
Moore led South in scoring with 13 points, seven in the fourth quarter. Nick Williams led Northwest in scoring with 19.
Kapaun 40, North 36 — Atir Cherne had 13 points to lead the visiting Crusaders to victory. Gage Loy had 12 points to pace North.
Southeast 75, West 44 — Southeast cruised to a win over West, as Jordan Murdock scored a team-high 18 points, Jerrick Harding added 17 and Reagan Oyugi had 12.
Clearwater 50, Rose Hill 47 — Johnny Becker scored 14 points and Reed Van Deest added 13 to lead Clearwater. Gabe Nichol’s 17 points led Rose Hill and Ben Priebe added 13.
Andover 65, Arkansas City 39 — Adam DeKoning had 22 points to lead the host Trojans who built a 37-16 halftime lead.
Wellington 52, El Dorado 48 — The host Crusaders rallied in the fourth quarter for a non-division victory. Trevor Nance had 22 points and Austin Dunn 15 for Wellington, while John Scott had 15 for El Dorado.
Hutchinson 48, Campus 30 — Campus trailed 27-16 at halftime. Kellen Schutt led the Colts with eight points.
Salina South 56, Newton 52 — Salina South got the win after being tied entering the fourth quarter at home. Justin Stonebraker had 21 for South while Gunar Drinnen led Newton with 12 points.
Goddard 56, Valley Center 50 — The host Lions built an eight-point first-half lead and made it stand up behind 15 points from Tucker Vang, 12 from Ryan Norquist and 11 from Tate Vang. Jacob Brittain had 15 to lead Valley Center.
Central Plains League
Garden Plain 64, Belle Plaine 45 — Clayton Milford scored eight of his 18 points in the first quarter to help Garden Plain race to a 19-10 lead. Nick Thimesch added 14 for the Owels. Brandon Happy led Belle Plaine in scoring with 18, nine in each half.
Cheney 43, Chaparral 36 — Ty Patterson had 15 poitns and Cameron Hill 13 for the host Cardinals.
Independent 49, Medicine Lodge 47 — Michael Kay had 11 points and Jonny Richmond 10 for the visiting Panthers, while Scott Angell had 25 for Medicine Lodge.
Trinity Academy 53, Conway Springs 44 — Trinity hit 11 of 14 free throws in the fourth quarter. Ben Mosley, Preston Miller and Jacob Loon each scored 11 points for Trinity. Dylan Murphy led Conway Springs in scoring with 16, eight in the fourth quarter.
