Girls roundup: Carranza’s 16 rebounds help East stop North
Jade Carranza and Astrid Same each scored nine points and Carranza grabbed 16 rebounds as host East completed a season sweep of North, beating the Redskins 41-29 in a City League game on Friday night at East.
Kimirra Lee added seven points for East (6-8), which never trailed despite shooting 32 percent from the field.
Aliyah Bernard scored eight points for North (3-11), which committed 19 turnovers and made 1 of 21 shots from the field in the second and third quarters.
Heights 77, West 17 — Annalys Benally had 17 points and Dahlia Watson and Kiersten Parks added 15 each as the Falcons won at home. Heights led 28-0 after the first quarter.
Kapaun 65, Southeast 22 — Sam Bachrodt scored seven of her team’s first 10 points and finished with 20 in an easy win. The Crusaders won the game in the first half with a 26-0 run, capped by one of Bachrodt’s four three-pointers. Eleven players scored for Kapaun, and the team hit 8 of its 10 threes in the first half. ophomore post Tachina Taylor came off the bench to lead Southeast with six points.
Andale 48, El Dorado 42 — The visiting Indians built a 14-3 first-quarter lead and kept it throughout. Brittany Meyer had 19 to lead Andale, while Mikala Ruff led El Dorado with 13 points.
Buhler 62, Circle 39 — Taryn Torgerson had 23 points and Jessica Steffen 17 for the host Crusaders. Leah Metzger and Kate Wilson led Circle with 12 points.
Clearwater 50, Collegiate 36 — Bryna Vogel led all scorers with 25 points for host Clearwater.
Eisenhower 61, Arkansas City 41 — Jaden Damon had 14 points and Kilah Hoenscheidt 12 for the visiting Tigers.
Maize 41, Hutchinson 30 — The visiting Eagles won a Division I game by getting 12 points from Brianna Johnson, 11 from Keiryn Swenson and 10 from Daley Handy.
Salina Central 71, Newton 27 — Visiting Central blitzed Newton with an 18-2 first quarter. Hannah Carlgren led Newton with 10 points.
Valley Center 33, Salina South 21 — The Hornets won a non-division game at home despite no player with more than seven points (Shelby Bosken).
Mulvane 61, Wellington 38 — Destynee Donaldson had 18 points and Aubree Burkhart 17 for Mulvane, which led 32-16 at halftime.
Winfield 48, Augusta 37 — Courtney Griffiths led the visiting Vikings with 17 points, while Casady Marlnee led Augusta with 19 points.

Independent 49, Bluestem 16 — Independent held Bluestem scoreless in the first half, building a 31-point lead. Alise Coccetella had 11 points and was one of 10 Panthers to score.
Conway Springs 46, Belle Plaine 24 — Sara Echelberry and Alicia Carter had 12 points each to lead the visiting Cardinals to a CPL victory.
Trinity Academy 35, Douglass 33 — The host Knights rallied from a six-point deficit in the fourth quarter to win. Kayleigh Schrag had nine points to lead Trinity.
Cheney 44, Garden Plain 41 — Cheney held off Garden Plain in the fourth quarter. Lizzie Costello had 14 for the Owls.
