Girls roundup: Unbeaten Kapaun recovers to beat Heights

Sam Bachrodt scored 12 points and Grace Hagan added 11 as visiting Kapaun Mount Carmel, ranked No. 1 in Class 5A by the coaches association, beat Heights 41-34 in a City League girls basketball game on Friday night.

Kapaun (9-0) trailed most of the first half, but scored 13 unanswered points to gain control.

Kiersten Parks scored 13 points to lead Heights, which was outscored 19-3 from the free-throw line.

City League

North 66, West 33 — Imani Jones had 17 points and Marissa Evans had 14 for host North. Alicia Ross had 14 points for West and Angelia Murray had 11.

East 51, Southeast 29 — East forced six first-quarter turnovers as it rolled to a 16-3 lead. East outrebounded Southeast 45-32, getting six from senior Jade Carranza and seven from freshman Astrid Same. Same and Kimirra Lee scored a game-high 12 points apiece.

AV-CTL

Andover Central 68, Arkansas City 22 — The host Jaguars built a 16-point first-quarter lead and cruised to a Division II win. Masen Stamp and Skyler Snodgrass had 12 each for Andover Central.

Andale 54, Hutchinson Trinity 27 — The visiting Indians turned it on after a four-point first quarter. Brittany Meyer had 16 to lead Andale to the non-league win.

Andover 55, Campus 44 — The visiting Trojans overcame a three-point halftime deficit by outscoring Campus 23-9 in the third period. Jaylyn Agnew had 16 points to lead Andover, while Jordan Keck had 12 to lead Campus.

Circle 44, Sedgwick 34 — Circle scored two first-quarter points yet rallied for 30 in the second half to beat host Sedgwick. Kate Wilson had 12 points and Caylie Kifer 11 for the T-Birds.

Clearwater 41, Collegiate 28 — Bryna Vogel scored 24 points to help visiting Clearwater to a Division IV victory. Addison Root had nine to lead Collegiate.

Eisenhower 57, Goddard 48 — Eisenhower built a nine-point first quarter lead to beat its rival. Brynn Minor had 16 points and Kilah Hoenscheidt 15 for Eisenhower, while Jenna Clasen had 14 to lead Goddard.

Buhler 50, Mulvane 39 — Jessica Steffen scored 19 points to lead the host Crusaders. Kellie Burns had 12 and Alex Keller 11 for Buhler, which led 24-14 at the half. Destynee Donaldson had 13 and Aubree Burkhart 12 for Mulvane.

McPherson 57, El Dorado 27 — Bullpups senior Abby Pedersen hit two of her three three-pointers in the first quarter, and the seventh-ranked Bullpups (6-3, 5-0) stayed undefeated atop the Division III standings. In all, McPherson hit six three-pointers in a balanced attack in which 10 players scored.

Salina Central 64, Derby 40 — Shaelyn Martin scored 19 points and Hailey Mayfield had 13 for Central. Grace Mitchell led Derby with 14 points.

Central Plains League

Cheney 44, Trinity Academy 33 — Allie Twietmeyer (12 points) and Carlea Holt (11) helped the host Cardinals take control in the second quarter. Kristin Miller led Trinity with 11 points.

Conway Springs 45, Medicine Lodge 18 — Sara Echelberry had 23 points to outscore Medicine Lodge by herself.

Chaparral 56, Independent 46 — Sydney Wescoat had 10 points to lead the host Roadrunners. Independent, which led by a point entering the final quarter, were led by Alisa Coccetella’s 16 points.

Garden Plain 55, Bluestem 15 — Lizzie Costello had 14 points and Daylynn Doyle added 11 for Garden Plain.
