Girls roundup: Salina Central rallies by Maize
Salina Central rallied past Maize 49-46 in an Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail League Division I girls matchup of ranked teams on Tuesday night in Salina.
Emily Wood scored 20 points for Salina Central, which is ranked third in Class 5A by the coaches association.
Daley Handy scored 11 points for Maize, which was ranked second in 6A. Leading scorer Keiryn Swenson was held to seven points.
Kapaun 45, Northwest 27 — Junior Sam Bachrodt had a career-high 30 points for host Kapaun. Bachrodt had 11 first-quarter points and nine in the second as Kapaun built a 33-13 halftime lead.
Carroll 52, West 11 — Jordyn Miller scored 14 points and Shelby Lopez had 10 in Carroll’s home victory. The Eagles held West scoreless in the first quarter and to six points through three quarters.
Heights 53, Southeast 40 — The Falcons required a second-half burst to pull away after being tied with the hosts at halftime. Kiersten Parks and Analyss Benally combined for 25 points for Heights (5-3). Southeast (1-6) was led by the 26 combined points from Kaylie Ines and Alex Arline.
South 69, East 18 — South dominated behind 18 points apiece from sophomore Kendrian Elliott and senior Madison Northcutt. Junior Kirea Rogers finished with 12 points for the Titans, who kept pounding the ball inside to the 6-3 Elliott and 6-0 Northcutt. Senior guard Kimirra Lee led East with five points.
Andale 33, Collegiate 19 — Kylee Ebert’s lay-up for Andale just 15 seconds into the fourth quarter was the final successful shot from the field for either team in a low-scoring win for the Indians. Andale junior guard Brittany Meyer hit four three-pointers over the first three quarters and finished with a game-high 14 points.
Clearwater 38, Augusta 22 — A game with 31 total points through three quarters had 29 in the fourth, with the host Indians pulling away for a Division IV victory. Bryna Vogel had 19 points to lead Clearwater.
Salina South 44, Campus 36 — Emilee Holloway had 19 points to lead South, while Jordan Keck had 11 points for Campus.
Wellington 50, Circle 35 — A big first half, and 11 points each from Carlie McComb and Lauryn Snipes, helped Wellington to a Division IV win. Katie Frankenbery had 10 to lead Circle.
Andover Central 59, Derby 40 — The host Jaguars outscored 13-3 in the first quarter and raced to a non-division victory. Masen Stamp had 18 points and Brooke Pedersen had 15 for Andover Central. Madi Greenwood had 15 points for Derby.
Goddard 51, Arkansas City 34 — Jenna Clasen and Brianna Fuchs scored 11 points each as the Lions won a road game.
Newton 41, Hutchinson 36 — Newton built an 11-point first-half lead and held it throughout for a Division I home victory. Hannah Carlgren had 16 points and Taylor Stahly 11 for Newton.
McPherson 67, Rose Hill 29 — Janae Barnes had 22 points and Abby Pedersen added 17 for McPherson in a Division III home win. Kynnedy Myers led Rose Hill with 13 points.
Andover 50, Valley Center 32 — Visiting Valley Center was held scoreless in the first quarter, trailing by 14. Jaylyn Agnew had 11 poitns and Lexi Tilson and Hayley Meisch 10 each for Andover, while Shelby Bosken had 12 to lead Valley Center.
Winfield 53, El Dorado 28 — The visiting Vikings took a 24-9 halftime lead. Karrie McNutt had 14 to lead Winfield.
Central Plains League
Cheney 59, Belle Plaine 27 — Allie Twietmeyer had 15 points for Cheney, which won a road game by holding Belle Plaine to six first-half points. Carlea Holt had 10 points for Belle Plaine.
Conway Springs 58, Bluestem 21 — The Cardinals outscored Bluestem 33-11 in the first half to cruise to victory. Sara Echelberry led Conway with 16 poitns, while Erica Ebenkamp had 13 and Kalie Jones for Conway.
Garden Plain 48, Independent 18 — Noelle Dooley had 14 points, Lauren Costello 13 and Madison Schmelzer 12 for the visiting Owls, who led 30-6 at halftime.
Trinity Academy 62, Medicine Lodge 33 — Kayleigh Schrag had 27 points and Ashley West had 10 to lead Trinity. Emily Hrencher had 19 points to lead Medicine Lodge.
