Girls roundup: Stahly helps Newton top Derby
Newton 49, Derby 42 — Taylor Stahly scored 19 points, including nine in the fourth quarter, to lead host Newton to a 49-42 wn over Derby on Friday in an AV-CTL Division I game.
Newton made 5 of 7 free throws in the final period. Grace Mitchell scored 18 points to lead Derby.
Kapaun 72, West 16 — Sam Bachrodt scored 22 of her 25 points in the first half as Kapaun stayed unbeaten. Kapaun led 49-8 at halftime.
Northwest 43, Southeast 24 — Northwest outrebounded Southeast 25-10 in the first half but committed 12 turnovers and only led by three at the half. The Grizzlies controlled the ball better in the third as they outscored Southeast 19-4 in the period. Calea Carr and Cassie Pauls led Northwest with 10 points each.
Buhler 69, Rose Hill 49 — A 29-4 first quarter helped the visiting Crusaders cruise to a Division III victory. Jessica Steffen had 28 points to lead Buhler, which also got 14 points from Kellie Burns. Kynnedy Myers had 17 points to lead the host Rockets.
Clearwater 47, Andale 34 — Bryna Vogel scored 19 points to lead Clearwater. Vogel scored 12 points in the second half. Junior Brittany Meyer led Andale with nine points.
Collegiate 36, Circle 31 — Addison Root had 12 points to lead Collegiate to a Division IV road victory. Jewell Bolden added nine points and Alex Payne had eight.
Eisenhower 44, Valley Center 42 — Brynn Minor scored 12 points to lead visiting Eisenhower in a Division II game. The Tigers trailed 34-29 entering the fourth quarter but built a five-point lead late in the game. Megan Barnes had 12 points and Kylie Webber 10 for Valley Center.
Mulvane 63, El Dorado 42 — KaSandra Melick scored 31 points as host Mulvane built a 24-point first half lead en route to a Division III victory. Aubree Burkhart added 13 points the Wildcats, while Justine Rice had 12 for El Dorado.
Salina Central 85, Campus 28 — Emily Wood had 22 points and Mackenzie Morris had 17 as the visiting Mustangs won a Division I game. Hayley Leeper had nine points to lead Campus.
Maize 49, Salina South 24 — Keiryn Swenson’s 16 points helped Maize cruise past visiting Salina South, which was held to 11 first-half points. Brianna Johnson added 11 points for Maize.

Conway Springs 37, Chaparral 27 — Sara Echelberry had 11 points to help host Conway Springs take control in the third quarter. Taylor Ireland had nine points to lead Chaparral.
Cheney 54, Garden Plain 48 — Taylor Needham scored 15 points and Carlea Holt and Sydney Peitz each added 11 for Cheney. Noelle Dooley scored 17 for Garden Plain.
Trinity Academy 51, Independent 27 — Shiloh Miller scored 12 of her game-high 16 points in the first half, and Caroline Zielke and Micala Hollinger each finished with 11 for host Trinity. The Knights (4-4) forced 16 of Independent’s 22 turnovers before halftime and led 35-15. Sydney Clark scored nine points for Independent, which shot 22 percent from the field (9 of 41) and 38 percent from the free-throw line (9 of 24).
