Roundup: North boys hold off Andover in OT

Zach Beard scored 27 points to lead North to a 63-55 overtime victory over Andover in the City League-AV-CTL Basketball Challege on Saturday at Koch Arena.

Andover overcame a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit and sent the game into overtime with a three by Bryant Klusener.

With North trailing 55-53 in overtime and one minute remaining, North senior Tristyn Villa forced a turnover and Tarius Williams scored to tie. Then Beard stole it, scored, was fouled and converted the three-point play.

Andover’s Adam DeKoning had a game-high 33 points.


Andover: Klusener 3, Brown 3, DeKoning 33, Bezdek 5, Beahm 7, Renoux 4.

North: Williams 17, Bernard 5, Villa 2, Beard 27, Bogle 4, Lewis 8.

Salina South 49, Carroll 46 — Salina South senior Justin Stonebraker hit two free throws with 9.2 seconds to go, then got a steal to ice the game in the final six seconds. He finished with 13 points. Carroll hit 5 of 6 threes in the second half, with two each from Luke Hohl and Mike Wilbert. Connor Evans led Carroll with 18 points, four steals.

Hutchinson 51, North 25 — North only trailed by four at the half, but Hutchinson’s defense held North to six second-half points. Hutchinson was led by Jenna Higgins’ 19 points; she scored 11 of the Salthawks’ 23 first-half points. North’s Emeli Bryant and Aliyah Bernard both scored eight.

North: Evans 7, Bernard 8, Bryant 8, Plamann 2.

East 45, Salina South 32 — East’s Antonea Carson scored four straight points as did teammate Astrid Same by the midpoint of the fourth period to pull away from Salina South. Same finished with 14 points, six rebounds, while Carson had seven and Jade Carranza had 10 rebounds, six points. Salina South was led by Emilee Holloway’s nine points.
