Boys roundup: Normore helps East defeat South
J.J. Normore scored 22 points and East held off South’s first-half rally to win 63-45 in a City League boys basketball game on Friday night at South.
East led 37-35 entering the fourth quarter before beginning a 25-7 run that put the game away. Samajae Jones had 11 points for East, which kept hold of third place in the City League (6-2, 5-2 CL).
Jordan Moore had 14 points to lead South (1-8, 0-8).
McPherson 65, El Dorado 40 — Kyler Kinnamon had 21 points for McPherson, which won an early showdown of the unbeaten teams in Division III. Travis House had 22 to lead El Dorado (7-2, 4-1).
Salina Central 54, Derby 48 — Visiting Central pulled even with Derby at the top of Division I behind 17 points from Treyton Hines and 14 from Mark Vaughn. Derby (8-2, 5-1 AV-CTL I) lost its second straight game, getting 12 points from Josiah Ray, 11 from James Conley and 10 from Tyler Chambers.
Eisenhower 68, Goddard 40 — Trevon Evans and Matt Morris combined for 19 of Eisenhower’s 22 second-quarter points as the host Tigers broke open a close game. Evans finished with 31 points and Morris added 24. Collin Nevil’s 17 points led Goddard.
Andover Central 62, Arkansas City 41 — Zach Winter had 22 poitns and Darraja Parnell 19 as the visiting Jaguars improved to 7-2, 3-1 AV-CTL II. Ark City was held to 13 first-half points.
Augusta 50, Rose Hill 48 — Chase Winter hit two free throws with two seconds remaining for Augusta in a wild finish. Down by 14 to start the fourth quarter, Rose Hill rallied to tie the score at 48-48 when Austin Waddell hit two free throws with two seconds remaining. Augusta did not inbounds the ball before a foul was called on Rose Hill and Winter went to the free-throw line. Bret Waddell led Rose Hill with 17 points while Winter had 16.
Mulvane 47, Buhler 40 — Nolan Smith had 11 points and host Mulvane (6-3, 3-2 AV-CTL III) rallied past Buhler. The Crusaders, led by Jace Williams’ 12 points, led 32-28 entering the fourth quarter.
Andover 71, Campus 58 — Dallas Bruner’s 20 points helped the host Trojans beat Campus in a non-division game. Marcus Saucedo had 11 to lead Campus.
Andale 59, Hutchinson Trinity 30 — Ben Seiler (13 points) led three Indians in double figures for the non-league victory that improved Andale to 8-1.

Independent 95, Chaparral 67 — Brice Dean had 23 points and host Independent had a 55-point second half in defeating Chaparral. Trey Williams and Kevin Jarvis each had 14 points for the Panthers. Justin Struble had 21 points to lead Chaparral.
Trinity Academy 84, Cheney 73 — Tyler Burns had 16 points with Ryan Miller and Matt Joines added 15 each in Trinity’s victory. The host Knights, leading by one at the end of the third quarter, went 15 for 18 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter.

Garden Plain 56, Bluestem 37 — Nick Thimesch had 10 poitns and was one of 10 Owls who scored in the CPL road victory.
