Chris Davis named Maize boys basketball coach

Chris Davis is back as a head coach.
Davis, who spent the past year as an assistant boys basketball coach at Maize and a special education teacher, takes over as head coach. He replaces Mike Darrah.
“He did a bang-up job, and we have promoted him to head coach,” Maize district athletic director Marc Haught said.
Davis was Kapaun’s coach in 1997-98, when the Crusaders went 14-8. He then spent eight seasons as South’s coach, from 1998-99 to 2005-06. His best season was his second, 1999-2000, when South went 15-8.
The Titans’ hiring of Chris Brown marked the fifth coach since Davis.
Davis also spent a year as Liberal’s head coach and was an assistant for two years under Burt Helmer at Circle.
“I’m elated that I have the opportunity to do this,” Davis said. “It was just being in the right place at the right time. I’m absolutely ecstatic.
“It’s a special place, and it’s a place that it’s not easy to get your foot in the door…. It will be a blast. I’m absolutely looking forward to it.”
