Goddard’s Derek Norris gets call-up to Athletics
Former Goddard High catcher Derek Norris has been called up by the Oakland Athletics and is in the lineup for this afternoon’s home game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The San Francisco Chronicle reported that Norris, 23, had initially been slated to remain at Triple-A Sacramento for the entire season since it was his first at Triple-A. Norris was hitting .273 with eight home runs and 36 RBIs.
Norris was a fourth-round pick of the Washington Nationals in 2007 and signed with the club instead of attending Wichita State. He played four seasons in the Nationals’ farm system before being traded to Oakland in December as part of a five-man deal.
