Frankamp scores 48 in North’s victory over Carroll
Bishop Carroll coach Lonnie Lollar calls Conner Frankamp a “special player.” This proved true Tuesday night when Frankamp scored a season-high 48 points to lead the Redskins to a 61-42 win over Carroll.
“We tried to bring two people, we tried to deny him; maybe next year we’ll try to guard him with five people,” Lollar said.
Frankamp scored 12 of North’s 18 points in the first period. Frankamp said he simply tried to get in the flow of the game.
After scoring six points in the second quarter, Frankamp made five field goals and two free throws in the third period to score all of North’s 15 points.
“Once he gets it going, like tonight he missed a couple shots; wait, in a matter of time he’s going to start knocking them down,” North coach Gary Squires said. “The kids really feed off his scoring.”
Tuesday marked the second time this season Frankamp has scored 48 points in a game. It was the fourth time this season he has scored more than 40 points.
“He’s very, very special,” Lollar said. “There’s not another player in this league or this state that can do what he can do offensively.”
North outscored Carroll 20-14 in the fourth quarter, when Frankamp scored another 15 points.
“Obviously he’s shooting the ball really well and it’s coming off his hand pure,” Squires said.
Frankamp scored points in double digits for three quarters of the game, and individually outscored Carroll in all three of those quarters.
“He got it going in the second half,” Squires said. “The kids do a great job of getting the ball to him too.”
Although 48 points is not Frankamp’s career high, he hopes to keep his momentum for the rest of the season.
“I’m just going to have a lot of confidence in myself and hopefully keep our winning streak going,” Frankamp said.
Despite scoring all but 13 of North’s points Tuesday, Frankamp said he is focused on the team winning. Squires said he is not about breaking records; he just wants to win games.
“He’d rather have 25 a game and win, than have to score,” Squires said. “We just want to get everybody involved.”
