Northcutt scores 23 as North muscles East

North post players Maddie Northcutt, Naomi Rosales and LaTreece Patterson combined for 41 points and 33 rebounds in the Redskins' 47-42 City League girls basketball victory over East on Tuesday night at East.

Northcutt scored 10 of her game-high 23 points in the first quarter, when North jumped to a 12-4 lead.

East made a double-digit deficit dwindle with two late three-pointers by Relina Johnson, but couldn't trim North's lead below four points. Johnson made six three-pointers and scored 22 points.

Southeast 73, South 67 — Jamisha Bonner scored six of her 16 points in overtime as host Southeast fought off South, which took it to overtime on free throws by Jessa Molina (15 points).

Makayla Loggins had 23 points for Southeast, 10 coming in the fourth quarter. South was led by Kirea Rogers' 21 points.

Northwest 59, West 19 — Ricayah Simpkins and Cassidy Harbert had 11 points each for Northwest in a 40-point victory at West.

Aujanae McCoy had 11 of West's 19 points.

McPherson 59, Andover 26 — Katelyn Loecker scored 22 points, Ashton Brunner had 14 and Abby Pederson 12 in the Bullpups' home victory. Audrey Meisch led Andover with eight points.

Andover Central 40, Arkansas City 25 — Second-quarter stops on defense by Andover Central led to a 17-7 halftime lead. Camille Gee led all scorers with 11 points.

Augusta 48, Winfield 47 — Winfield fell just short of a comeback win. The Orioles, scored 16 points in the fourth quarter with Kelsey Estrada making three three-pointers in the period. Christina Downs led Augusta with 11 points. Augusta won its first game while Winfield fell to 0-4.

Clearwater 48, Circle 29 — Bryna Vogel had 18 points as Clearwater won at Towanda. Ashley Frankenbery had 10 to lead the Thunderbirds.

Derby 55, Goddard Eisenhower 35 — Michaela Liebst had 10 points in the Panthers' road victory. Derby held a 26-12 halftime advantage.

Buhler 84, El Dorado 51 — Lindy Sasse had 16 points, Josie Williams 14 and Kim Patterson 13 in the Crusaders' home victory. Buhler jumped to an 11-3 lead then scored 28 second-quarter points. Andrea Valadez had 18 and Hannah Helferich 16 for El Dorado.

Valley Center 48, Goddard 26 — The Hornets' Madison Wedekind was the only player in double figures, scoring 14 to lead Valley Center to a home victory. Valley led 24-14 at halftime, then held Goddard scoreless in the third quarter.

Maize South 42, Collegiate 34 — The visiting Mavericks got 18 points from Mariah Suchan in a victory.

Newton 73, Campus 45 — The Railers had four players in double figures, led by Maddie Pendry's 17 points. Audrey Zogelmann had 12 to lead Campus.

Rose Hill 38, Mulvane 32 — The Rockets used an 8-0 run in the final 2:17 to escape with a road victory, despite 22 turnovers and 13-of-41 shooting.

Alia Khalidi shot her first free throws of the game with 42 seconds left and made both to seal the victory. Kayla Justice had game-highs in points (16) and rebounds (8) for the Rockets.

Mulvane squandered its chance tying by turning the ball over three straight times down the stretch. The Wildcats received 13 points off the bench from Elise Gerlach, while sophomore Destynee Donaldson added nine points and seven rebounds.

Central Plains

Cheney 50, Chaparral 43 — Taylor Needham and Payton Scheer scored 14 points each as the Cardinals beat Chaparral. Amelia Ballard had 17 points to pace Chaparral.

Garden Plain 51, Douglass 31 — Ally Heimerman had 12 points as the Owls won easily at home.

Belle Plaine 56, Independent 34 — Alicia Hamersky scored 29 points in the Dragons' home victory. Belle Plaine jumped to a 16-5 lead and was never threatened. Alise Coccetella had 14 for the Panthers.

Trinity Academy 63, Bluestem 37 — Trinity's Hannah Henry sparked a 22-point second quarter with 8 points of her game high 18. Kelli Henderson added 14 for Trinity. Casaday Marlnee popped in 13 for Bluestem.
