Area boys basketball roundup: McPherson beats pesky Eisenhower
Travell Robinson scored 18 points and Cody Cape added 16 as the McPherson Bullpups fought off a game Goddard Eisenhower team in its first season, 61-57 on Tuesday night in an Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail League boys basketball game at McPherson.
Ashton Briggs and Trevon Evans each had 14 for Eisenhower, which never trailed by more than four at the end of any period.
Salina Central 61, Maize South 39 — Wes Phillips scored 15 points to lead the Mavericks in a home loss. Mark Vaughn had 17 points to lead the visiting Mustangs.
Hutchinson 35, Campus 33 — Campus' Austin Vaden was the only player in double figures (12) as the Colts lost a close home game. Hutchinson shot 23 free throws to Campus' six.
Mulvane 59, Haven 54 _ Ty Redington scored 16 points, Nolan Smith had 14 and Zach Haynes 13 as Mulvane beat Haven in a Kingman Classic game. Caden Ford had 17 points to lead Haven.
Collegiate 59, Valley Center 42 — The Spartans pulled away with a 19-4 third quarter. Trace Clark scored 22 points and Markus Phox had 10 for Collegiate.
Wellington 55, Kingman 42 — Levi Gurley scored 22 points to lead the Crusaders over host Kingman. Mikabe Erdman had 15 points to lead Kingman.
Dodge City 60, Goddard 36 — Alex Shoemaker and Jordan Rempe had 10 points each in the Lions' road loss.
Clearwater 59, Chaparral 44 — Clearwater's 25-5 first quarter did in Chaparral in a Cheney tournament game. Colin Frickey led the Indians with 15 points, while John Becker had 12. Scott McCartney had 20 points to lead Chaparral.
Trinity Academy 50, Hesston 47 — A 12-1 fourth quarter boosted the Knights past Hesston. Ryan Miller had 15 points to lead Trinity and Alex Kessinger chipped in 11. Hesston, which led 46-38 at the start of the fourth quarter, was led by Eyan Roth's 18.
Moundridge 58, Garden Plain 46 — Trey Unrau scored 28 points to lead the Wildcats past Garden Plain in the Moundridge tournament. Paul Renyer had 16 and Dylan Clark 12 for Garden Plain.
