Area girls basketball roundup: Harbert, Northwest fend off North
Cassidy Harbert scored a key third-quarter basket as part of her 17 points, leading Northwest past North 53-44 on Tuesday night in a City League girls basketball game at North.
North (0-2, 0-2) cut Northwests lead to 37-34 on a baseline drive by Naomi Rosales with 2:52 to go in the third. But Northwests Ricayah Simpkins answered with a putback, then got a steal and found Harbert for a basket to pull away from the Redskins.
Rosales finished with 21 points, 10 rebounds and five steals, while teammate Maddie Northcutt had 14 points and 15 rebounds.
Northwest was led by Harberts 17 points, five steals, and TreTre Nolen added 10 points.

Bishop Carroll 62, Southeast 36 Reserve Hanna Schauf scored 17 points, including four three-pointers all in the first half helping the Golden Eagles to a 36-11 halftime lead, and Carroll cruised to a victory at Southeast.
Fellow junior Kayla Demel hit two three-pointers in the fourth quarter, allowing Carroll to thwart any Southeast hopes of a rally. Demel finished with 13. Sophomore Jordyn Miller, who had 31 points Friday in the season-opener at South, finished with nine.
Southeast, which hit just four of 13 free throws, was led by junior Jamisha Bonners 12 points.

Heights 63, Kapaun 36 Kapaun cut Heights 11-point lead to two in the second quarter, but the Falcons begin to pull away before halftime before continuing to stretch the lead in the third quarter.
Two Katie Palmer three-pointers keyed a 9-0 run by Heights that extended its lead to 43-23 in the third quarter. Palmer scored 13 points, one of three Falcons in double figures. Taylor Chandler made her first seven shots on the way to scoring 16 points, and Jada Lynch scored 10. Molly McAuliffe led Kapaun with 13 points.

Maize girls 57, Derby 33 Maize dictated the pace, using a full-court, trapping zone to force 32 Derby turnovers in the opener for both teams, The Eagles were led by Paige Lungwitzs 12 points, while Kelsey Stewart, McKenzie Hartzog, Keiryn Swenson and Daley Handy all scored eight.
Derby was led by Michaela Liebst with eight points, while Alyxis Bowens,finished with six points, 11 rebounds, three steals and two blocks.
Maize coach Jerrod Handy sat out, serving a one-game suspension for violating summer coaching rules.
