Rose Hill faced a tough task Saturday coming back from a hard-fought defeat in the Class 4-1A girls soccer tournament.

But the Rockets found energy and beat Kansas City Piper 3-1 for third place at Maize South High.

"These girls are exhausted," Rose Hill coach Jerry Treat said. "I was happy to see they had legs left after playing three games in (five) days."

Piper struck first with a goal from forward Becca Ferguson seven minutes into the first half.

The Rockets were able to answer two minutes later with a Miranda Raevsky goal.

Raevsky was the centerpiece of the Rockets' success as she tallied two assists on two Kalyn Pfaff goals later in the game.

"Miranda was fantastic today," Treat said. "The two assists she had were beautiful and made it easy for Kalyn to score."

Beyond the offense, it was another stellar defensive performance as Rose Hill allowed five Pirates shots on goal.

"Piper had extremely athletic forwards," Treat said. "It made it tough for us, but the girls held on well."

Rose Hill thinks it has enough to return to the final four.

"It's exciting knowing we return several key players," Pfaff said. "We only graduate two players, so we definitely have a chance to get back here next year."
