Week 1 football box scores, roundup (Sept. 3)

Published Sep. 4 at 2:11 p.m. | Last updated Sep. 4 at 2:11 p.m.

EAST 18, NORTH 0

With a receiving corps that includes four players 6-foot-3 or taller, East junior quarterback Desmond McGee could have several nights like the one he had Friday in his debut for the Blue Aces.

McGee passed for 164 yards and two touchdowns and had an important fourth-quarter rushing touchdown as North was threatening to rally.

All those tall receivers and McGee made the most use out of one of the (relatively) shorter ones. Six-foot-2 senior Ronnie McFann, who caught four passes, including a 37-yard touchdown in the first quarter, for 83 yards. DeAnte Brandon, a 6-5 junior, out-jumped a defender for a 31-yard score in the second.

“I saw the corners pressing the receivers, so I knew they were going to be open on the fade,” McGee said. “They got by them, I passed the ball, touchdown.”
