BUHLER — Buhler came into Friday’s game having to replace one of the state’s top rushers, Jordan Oden. Tanner Fisher proved he’s capable.

Fisher carried the Crusaders in a 34-10 victory over Rose Hill, finishing the night with 181 yards on 33 carries.

“I knew that Rose Hill had a talented team,” Fisher said. “My line did a great job opening up holes for me all night against a great defense.”

Buhler struggled on their first few possessions, but it kept to its game plan of running straight at the Rocket defense.

“I’ve got all the respect in the world for Rose Hill,” Buhler coach Steve Warner said. “It is a credit to our guys for sticking to the game plan.”

Rose Hill’s LaQua Mayes had a great night of his own. He finished with 162 yards on 19 carries.

On the Rockets’ first offensive possession of the second half, they drove downfield only to be negated by a Decker fumble on the 1-yard line.

Another fumble by Mayes helped ignite Buhler.

“Our composure was strong throughout the game but once we had our first turnover, we seemed to fade a little bit,” Rose Hill coach Greg Slade said.

“ . . . I liked what we had in our game plan. Unfortunately we hurt ourselves with a couple of turnovers on possessions that we had momentum going strong.”

In the second quarter, Rose Hill responded to a 71-yard touchdown run by Fisher by running the kickoff back. But it was called back on a block in the back that pushed them back to their own 19.

“We need to go into practice next week ready to clean a few things up,” Slade said. “We face another very talented team in Wichita Collegiate and we need to be ready to go.”
