City League
* Carroll played many sophomores and juniors last season. Seniors Kolby Franklin and Logan Fritz lead a team looking to improve from 5-11 last season.
* East beat league-champ Southeast in the regional final but lost two scorers. Seniors Spencer Crouch, Brian Martinez and All-City midfielder Jorge Rodriguez are back.
* MF Ari Valesquez is one of Heights' few seniors and had six goals and 10 assists last season.
* Kapaun returns seniors Luke Campbell and Tyler Flores from a team that reached a regional championship game.
* Noel Martinez and Abraham Martinez lead a North defense that allowed two goals in a five-game win streak at the end of last season.
* Northwest was one win short of a City League title in 2009. Goalkeeper Jonathan Lane's success could determine how far the Grizzlies go.
* South , coming off a 1-7 league record, will be led by offensive seniors Ron Segura and Corben Ewerts.
* West (5-12) started seven freshmen last season. Second-team All-City MF Arturo Marrufu returns.
Area schools
* Andover returns three key seniors: coaches all-state honoree Tyler Drum, All-AV-CTL III goalie Taylor Spencer and team assist leader Garrett Repp.
* Matt Hamm, Tyler West and Zach Malletts return to lead Andover Central .
* Ryan Albright (11 goals), Tanner Janzen and A.J. Willett are all juniors returning for Augusta.
* Buhler returns seniors Parker Wedel and Ryan Schmidt from a team that started nine freshmen last season.
* Brett Tunnell (13 goals, five assists), defender Eric Carlson and forward Nick Warren (seven goals, four assists) will be key to Circle's improvement.
* Dan Gough scored 11 goals and added three assists for Derby in 2009. He and fellow senior Larkin Feikert (11 assists) are back.
* Maize lost nine seniors on a team that went 17-2 in 2009. Spencer Hoch, Garrett Hoch and Jose Diaz will be senior leaders.
* Maize South returns its starters from its 4-13 season.
* Goalkeeper Brice Thrower and senior defender Evan Bissel return for McPherson .
* Mulvane has a large senior class led by Skip Miller, Vince Farr and Devin Ruyle.
* All-Metro coach Scott Jantzi directed Newton to a 16-3 record and a loss in the state quarterfinals in 2009. He returns senior defender Gonzalo Toribio and midfielder Missael Reyes.
* First-year-coach Randy McVay says Wichita Independent could surprise a few teams with its skill and ball movement. Henry Lisenby and Dietrich Johnson will lead the attack.
* Wichita Trinity's Regan Billings (22 goals, 14 assists) is back, as is GK Quentin Watters (12 shutouts).
