The 2009-10 Eagle All-Metro basketball teams
The Eagle began selecting All-Metro teams in 2004-05. Forty-one schools in Sedgwick, Harvey and Butler counties are eligible to have players selected.
Most Valuable Player PERRY ELLIS 6-8, so., Heights Ellis, a two-time All-Metro selection, had no sophomore slump as he led Heights to a 23-2 record, the City League title and the Falcons’ second straight Class 6A title. Even though teams focused their defenses on stopping him, Ellis averaged 22.2 points and 10.5 rebounds.
LEON COOPER 6-0, sr., Sunrise Christian Cooper’s probably most remembered for his dunks _ he had an impressive repertoire _ but he has an all-around game, averaging 18 points and 3.7 steals. The Division I recruit could penetrate and score or pull up and hit from the perimeter.
BLAKE JABLONSKI 6-2, sr., Collegiate Jablonski, a two-time All-Metro selection who was named to The Eagle’s 2009 Top 11 football team, led Collegiate to a 25-1 record and the Class 3A title. He averaged 15.3 points and shot 50.6 percent from two-point range, 39 percent from three.
MARSHALL MILLER 6-5, sr., Andover Central Miller has the unique ability to play all five positions, and do it well. Miller averaged 16.3 points, shooting 58.1 percent from the floor, including 50 percent from three. He also averaged 8.2 rebounds as he led Andover Central to a 20-3 record.
ALEX SANTIAGO 6-0, sr., Burrton Santiago led the state with 29 points per game and tied a state tourney record with 53 points in the Class 1A quarterfinals. He shot 50.7 percent from two-point range, averaged 5.1 steals, 8.9 rebounds, 4.1 assists. He shot 192 free throws, making 78.6 percent.
RYAN SCHULTZ 6-4, sr., Maize Schultz’s athleticism and versatility to play inside or out were key in Maize (17-6) advancing to the Class 6A tournament. Schultz averaged 13.5 points, 9.2 rebounds and 2 assists. He shot 58.8 percent.
MITCH FIEGEL Coach, Collegiate Fiegel, a three-time All-Metro coach of the year, led the Spartans to their second straight Class 3A title _ including a 40-point win in the title game _ and a 25-1 record. The Spartans’ only loss was to Class 5A’s Great Bend.
Most Valuable Player TIFFANY BIAS 5-6, sr., Andover Central A two-time All-Metro selection, Bias is a quick guard who can drive the lane, pull up for a jumper or knock down threes. She makes the tough passes look easy. Bias, who signed with Oklahoma State, led her team to a 25-0 record and the Class 5A title. She averaged 21.6 points, 6.9 assists and 5.2 steals.
JHASMIN BOWEN 6-1, jr., Heights Bowen is a dominant presence in the lane. She’s lean, long and tenacious on defense and rebounding. She averaged 16.2 points, 11.3 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 1.8 blocks as she led Heights to a 23-2 record, second place in Class 6A and a 16-0 record in the City League.
KYRSTIE EHM 5-10, jr., Circle Ehm’s versatility was key in leading Circle to the Class 4A tournament. She consistently scored inside or on the perimeter, averaging a team-high 16.4 points. She led Circle (19-5) with 7.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals.
MERISSA QUICK 6-3, jr., Cheney Quick is imposing on the court because of her size, but she’s not only dominant in the lane. She’s mobile in an uptempo offense. She rebounds well (8.9 per game) and averaged 3.4 blocks, 14.7 points. She led Cheney to a 26-0 record and the 4A title.
NICOLE WALDEN 5-8, sr., Bishop Carroll Walden, who started for the Eagles as a freshman, was undersized in the lane, but her aggressive play made up for it. She led Carroll (22-3) in rebounding (6) and scoring (11.7) and was key in the Eagles finishing third in Class 5A.
ASHIA WOODS 5-11, jr., Collegiate While Woods, a two-time All-Metro selection, continued to shoot well from anywhere, she focused on her defense. She led the Spartans in steals (5.8 per game), offensive and defensive rebounds (7.4), deflections, as well as scoring (22.7). She led Collegiate to a 22-2 record.
STANA JEFFERSON Coach, Andover Central Jefferson, a two-time All-Metro coach of the year, led the Jaguars to a 25-0 record and the Class 5A title. It’s the second time Andover Central has won a title with an undefeated record; the Jaguars won 4A in 2007-08 with a 26-0 record.
