Just before tipoff. In addition to having one of the tallest players in the 6-10 Cauley, Spearville also starts one of the shortest in 5-6 Lucas Imel. One of the officials is former Emporia State coach Ron Slaymaker.

As close as I can tell, the rooting sections are about even. But Spearville is concentrated in one section across from its bench, and Nemaha Valley is spread over three sections on the bench (north) side.

Top-seeded Spearville and No. 8 Nemaha Valley are warming up. Having lived in Dodge City the past three years, I had a chance to see Spearville play a year ago in the SPIAA Tournament. Sophomore Willie Cauley, who has already been offered by Kansas State gets a lot of attention, and why not? He’s 6-10. But the key for the Lancers has been 6-3 Carson Konrade, their leading scorer. Key players for Nemaha Valley are 6-2 senior Dane Brinker and 5-11 Garrett Steinlage.
