ANDALE — Friday night, Augusta and Andale played to a near-capacity gym.

But more people than that likely heard the game, thanks to Andale’s live streaming of the game through cyberspace.

With a headset and a laptop, Andale junior Colby Hollis brought the action to an Internet audience.

“Ohhhhæ.æ.æ. overshot Emma.”

Indians athletic director Josh Swartz said the program began this year with Andale’s highly successful football season.

“This is done mostly for listeners out of state,” he said.

Swartz said he has received e-mails from Andale alums in Texas and California who have heard the streaming.

Hollis said he has received feedback as well.

“They really like the games, and they try to tune in every game,” he said.

“Erin (Carney) goes up for the shot and gets fouled.æ.æ.æ.”

Hollis said he first considered doing the webcasts a year ago when Swartz and Andale principal Stan May approached him.

After a test run during an Indians volleyball game, Hollis did football in the fall.

“She missesæ.æ.æ. it looked like round-the-world there.æ.æ.æ.”

Hollis said he must keep his focus during the game, but that doesn’t mean there haven’t been potential distractions.

“Some of my friends try to text me while broadcasting,” said Hollis, who said that many of his peers are unaware of his budding broadcast career.

“And he gets stuffed by ‘Too Tall’ (6-foot-6 Dylan Hawkins).æ.æ.æ.”

In the future, adding video may be considered, but that would mean new equipment, Hollis said.

“There isn’t enough capacity on the computer,” he said.

“Conor (Rock) shoots for three points, and makes it.æ.æ.æ.”

Swartz and Hollis credit the Andale High booster club for a key financial assist.

Eventually, Swartz said, he hopes to groom a replacement for Hollis.

But Hollis said he plans on webcasting next year — and maybe as a career.

“It’s something I would like to do,” he said.
